\"error<\/a>Ok, we been checking the webstats and found that a lot of people are linking to the blog for an old post about “error 99” on a canon 30D camera. anyway, to make a long story short, we got this error 99 thing about a year ago on my canon 30D and we had to shoot a wedding the following week. followed the instructions from the canon website (below) and come to find out, that the camera had to be serviced by canon, so sent it in, and found out it was a faulty shutter. good luck with trouble shooting, but anyway error 99 sucks!!!! hope to never see it again.<\/p>\n

if you have a Canon 10D, 20D, 30D, 40D & Rebel xti <\/p>\n

this is what was on the Canon USA website. It may help some of you isolate the problem before you post a comment\/question.<\/p>\n

To isolate the cause of the issue, we suggest that you do the following:<\/p>\n

1. Turn off the camera.
\n2. Remove the lens, battery, and CF card.
\n3. Allow the camera to sit without power for approximately 20 minutes.
\n4. Insert a fully charged battery, and turn on the camera.
\n5. Depress the shutter button as you would to take a picture.<\/p>\n

Does the \u0093ERR 99? message appear? If it does, then the camera should be
\nserviced. If it does not, then please proceed to the next set of steps:<\/p>\n

1. Turn off the camera.
\n2. Insert the CF card.
\n3. Turn on the camera.
\n4. Format the CF card in the camera.
\n5. Depress the shutter button as you would to take a picture.<\/p>\n

Does the \u0093ERR 99? message appear? If so, then the CF card is the most
\nlikely source of the issue. Try using a different card.<\/p>\n

If the message does not appear, please complete the following steps:<\/p>\n

1. Turn off the camera.
\n2. Clean the lens contacts by gently rubbing them with a pencil eraser
\nor soft cloth. Be careful that you do not let any debris fall into the
\ncamera body.
\n3. Reattach your lens.
\n4. Turn on the camera.
\n5. Depress the shutter button as you would to take a picture.<\/p>\n

If the \u0093ERR 99? message only appears when one particular lens is
\nattached, then that lens should be examined by a service technician.<\/p>\n

If you see the \u0093ERR 99? with a different Canon lens attached, then the
\ncamera should be serviced.<\/p>\n
